About the Project: Located in Central Arizona, this town established in the late 1800s as a railroad town and a population upwards of 17,000 as of 2023, has served as a regional trade center for transportation, manufacturing, and logistics for the past 30 years. The town is the same distance from Phoenix and Tucson, at 55 miles from each. The name Eloy comes from the European name meaning “chosen” and doubles as an acronym for East Line of Yuma. It was known as this name until the construction of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the early 1880s, where the workers found that it was easier to write E.L.O.Y.. Eloy was added to maps as a train stop by 1903 and a town by 1921 after much debate with the name “Cotton City” which would not be accepted by either the US Postal Service and the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Eloy is the perfect spot to go for an abundance of activities like sky diving, taking a hot air balloon ride, or going for a hike at Picacho Peak. Museums, Golf Courses, Mini Golf, State Parks, and an Ostrich Ranch is in close distance to this quaint town. Eloy was also home to the Grand Prix Races, and although those have since stopped, the raceway is still open for practice on the weekends and scheduled races. The town also engages in activities like Pinal County Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run, Thanksgiving food drives, and Christmas Toy Drives. Eloy has its own Municipal Airport, that is also home to a world-class skydiving facility. Keeping the town safe is the Eloy Detention Center, with Fred Figueroa as the warden who has served in the Marine Corps for 3 years with multiple positions as assistant warden and warden at other Correctional Facilities.
